BASKET SALES AND COMMISSIONS
I sell baskets during my open workshops in the summer and welcome visits to my workshops during the rest of the year by appointment. I accept private commissions and am happy to send baskets by post.
Please note I do not produce cheap “giftware” baskets for re-sale
RURAL CATALAN BASKETS
Willow and willow and cane. Strong, functional, regional and beautiful. Forms used by generations of mushroom pickers, farming wives, rabbit farmers and poachers in the Catalan countryside and market towns.
My repertoire includes the original Catalan shopper and elegant strawberry basket, both rarely made nowadays, as well as the attractive mushroom basket, the unusual double pelapatatas and the double-lidded rabbit basket, now ideal as a picnic basket.
WOOD STRIP BASKETS
Wide and narrow strips of wood sourced locally and lovingly worked by hand. Hazel, chestnut, ash, alder buckthorn and wild cherry are all used. Strong and beautiful baskets from the north of Spain, designed for years of use by rural people from the mountain farmers of the Pyrenees (Catalunya) to the grape-pickers of the Ribeira Sacra (Galicia).
These baskets are characteristic of northern Spain and are made from hand-worked strips of wood. Split wood baskets cost more because they takes longer to make. With regular use these baskets become even more beautiful – dark, smooth and glossy - and with the minimum of care they can last a lifetime. My repertoire includes the special horned “Bres” basket of the Val d´Aran (Catalunya) and a small handled basket from Pontevedra (Galicia).
TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY EUROPEAN BASKETRY
All sorts of useful baskets for your home. Ironing baskets, laundry baskets, willow mats, rectangular baskets for bathrooms and kitchens.
I make “ferroviarias”, practical rectangular, lidded baskets once used by Spanish workers to carry their lunch. Ferroviarias are now perfect “weekend away” baskets or picnic baskets.
BASKETRY RESTORATION
I restore old split wood baskets to their former glory.
Restoration work includes mending, cleaning, treating for woodworm and waxing.
